Solung Festival, Arunachal Pradesh

Festivals form an essential aspect of the socio-cultural life of the people of the state. As a matter of fact, festivals are the mirrors of the people’s culture. Since agriculture is the mainstay of the population, naturally, the festivals celebrated by the people are closely connected with their occupation. Such festivals are celebrated at a larger sale for thanking the Gods for their providence and for saying a prayer a prayer for a bumper crop. Throughout the year some tribe or the other celebrates festivals. In our tour we have incorporated the Solung festival of the Adi Tribe.
Animal sacrifices are a common ritual in most of the festival, the religious rites and the sacrifices are generally performed by their priests assisted by some select male members.
The festivals have been firmly blended with the lifestyle of the people of Arunachal Pradesh. These are also occasions to bring all people together who might otherwise be scattered in far-flung villages. This serves as a reminder of the richness of their cultural heritage.
Appeasement of the deities who control the peace and prosperity of the people is the thought behind the celebration. Villagers exchange bamboo tubes of rice beer as a mark of greeting and good will.

This celebration is from 01st of September till 03rd of September and we have taken Pashighat as our main place to witness the celebration. However on our journey to Along and Daporizo, we will witness the villagers celebrating it as well.

The programme will takes us to more tribal villages including Ziro, famous for the Apatani tribes. Our tours ends in he national park of Kaziranga from where we have the option to continue the tour to Tawang and Bomdila or take the flight back to Delhi. Guest not interested in the tribal festival can join us here to take the Tawang/Bomdila  tours.
